Our mission is clear: to foster and encourage the growth of the bamboo horticultural industry in Australia and advocate for the advancements of the many bamboo bio products which are emerging. Bamboo not only offers a sustainable and alternate material it provides substantial benefits to Australia’s society, the environment and the economy.

  • To promote all aspects of bamboo interest in Australia.
  • To promote opportunities for sharing information and education, and awareness amongst the public.
  • To support the innovation of bamboo as a mainstream material and a wide range of bi-products such as textiles, construction and biofuels including biochar.
  • To support the Australian bamboo industry and academia in conducting research.

  • To celebrate and promote the cultural significance of bamboo in Australia.
  • To engage with government bodies and policymakers, educating and influencing them on bamboo’s benefits for the economy, environment and society.
  • To provide guidance and assistance to develop educational resources by offering technical support and sharing knowledge and expertise in bamboo-related fields.
  • To establish and maintain a comprehensive database with information on research and bamboo applications in Australia and other significant advances worldwide.
  • To facilitate collaboration and information sharing across Australia by hosting online and presential networking events.

Governance - The Council

The BSA is governed by an elected committee, operating in accordance with our constitution. The committee includes various groups focused on specific areas of interest, including: activities and events, research initiatives and educational classes.

BSA board members are passionate about different aspects of bamboo cultivation and use. Committee positions are open to any member each year who is enthusiastic about contributing to the society’s growth.
