TOPIC: Cultivated Mullerochloa

Cultivated Mullerochloa 4 years 4 months ago #46

G'day Members ... the following is submitted on behalf of Don Franklin ... I am unable to assist him ... can anyone else help? ... Geoff Kyle.

Hi Geoff,

Do you know anyone who has Mullerochloa in cultivation? Or know anyone who would know who has it ..... ?

Prof. Wong from the University of Malaysia is seeking some more leaf material for genetic analysis as part of their phylogenetic studies of bamboos. This is a bona fide project - www.eeob.iastate.edu/research/bamboo/collaborators.html (Prof. Wong is second from the bottom of the list) - and I strongly commend it to you.

The reason we are seeking cultivated material is that the permit system for sending wild material overseas is rather horrific and to be avoided if possible. Given the distinctive nature of the species, Prof. Wong doesn't see a problem with using cultivated material.

cheers, Don
